Hello David and fellow Youth Learn subscribers. I wanted to let everyone
know that the survey below is not sponsored by USDA--I posted the
announcement on behalf of Dr. Bill Evans at the University of Nevada,
Reno. Below is a response from Bill regarding the benefits of
participating in the survey. If you have any additional questions about
the survey, please feel free to contact Bill directly. Thanks for your
interest!

Reply from Bill Evans:

The information that the research team at the University of Nevada, Reno
is collecting via the Working with Youth Survey project will be
important data about the field of youth work that currently does not
exist. This includes information about youth worker skills, experience,
education and training, the features of the programs in which they work,
and the characteristics of their work environment and benefits. It is
hoped that survey findings will help us determine salient training
needs, what types of support youth workers believe they need to be most
effective, the scope and type of activities currently being conducted by
youth workers, and what issues are most important among youth workers to
continue working in the field. In addition to research articles and
conference presentations of the findings, a summary report of the survey
findings will be posted online at the University of Nevada, Reno in the
spring of next year (the survey will remain open for approximately 4
months); and the URL for this report will be widely distributed through
the same survey recruitment channels (email listserves, youth serving
organizations websites, etc.) that were used for participant
recruitment. This project was jointly funded by the University of
Nevada, Reno Cooperative Extension and Agricultural Experiment Station.
It is expected that research results will have implications for youth
development organizations in terms of retaining qualified staff and
training issues; at least one national webinar on the project findings
is anticipated being offered through www.CYFERnet.org next year. For
more information about this study, contact Bill Evans (contact
information follows).

Thanks for your support in helping us collect critical baseline data to
strengthen the field of youth work,

Bill

This sounds valuable, but Suzanne, would you share with us what will
happen with the research and how it will be reported back? Besides some
limited chance at a gift certificate, what will the youth service
providers community get back at the end? Is there USDA funding for youth
staff training or something else?

Thanks.
- David

Dear Youth Program Staffer:

If you work with youth (ages 10 - 18) during out-of-school time hours,
we

need your help!

A team from the University of Nevada, Reno is conducting an
international

web-based survey of adults who work directly with youth (ages 10 - 18)
in

non-school time programs. This is a follow-up survey to one we
conducted

two years ago. We again are asking for your help to complete and
distribute

this short survey. The purpose of the study is to examine the
relationship

between a youth worker's job satisfaction and plans to continue working
with

youth, and their perception of:

. their skills in providing positive developmental settings for
youth;

. the features of the out-of-school-time program in which they
work;

. their professional experience and training; and

. characteristics of their job and benefits.

Please help us learn more about how to keep good youth development

professionals working in our programs. You can get to the survey by

clicking on the following link:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=723752175369

Complete a survey and get a chance to win one of 10 $50 gift
certificates we

will be giving away!

We would also ask that you pass this email on to any adults who work
with

youth (ages 10 - 18) in out-of-school time programs. We apologize if
you

have received this request multiple times and ask that you only complete
the

survey once.

If you have any questions or problems accessing the survey, please email

survey manager Laura Davidson at ldavidso at unr.nevada.edu.

Thank you for your time and involvement in helping us learn more about
what

makes a quality youth development professional.
