Hi, all. We're pleased to invite you to the ITEST LRC webcast on Using
Gaming & Computer Simulations for Youth Engagement & Learning. It's
taking place this Thursday, Nov. 15 at 2:00pm EST. As you may know, the
YouthLearn team is a partner in the NSF-funded ITEST Resource Center at
EDC, and we've developed a publication on gaming and simulations in
youth programs that is good background material for this webcast:

Please join if you can!

Cheers,
Wendy

Webcast: Using Gaming & Computer Simulations for Youth Engagement &
Learning

Thurssday, November 15, 2007 2:00 - 3:30 ET

Presenters:

* Dr. David Gibson, Research Assistant Professor of
Computer Science at the University of Vermont and Executive Director of
Global Challenge Award ITEST Program
<http://www2.edc.org/itestlrc/projects/youthbased/award_vt.asp>

* Dr. Steve Bean, Program Developer and Co-Principle
Investigator and Jacob Martinez, Project Coordinator, Girl Game Company
<http://www2.edc.org/itestlrc/projects/youthbased/gcg_ca.asp>

Join us for this public webcast event which will highlight the important
role that games and computer simulations play in the lives and learning
experiences of today's youth. These youth-often referred to as
"power-users of technology"-have a technological expertise unmatched by
previous generations. We will explore how technology is changing the
thinking patterns and perceptions of today's youth. How can gaming and
simulations be used to optimize the learning styles of these youth? Dr.
David Gibson will discuss how to use technology to reach these learners.
Dr. Steve Bean and Jacob Martinez will then describe what they are
observing from youth who learn by and utilize technology.

In This Issue

Increasingly, educators are leveraging games and computer simulations to
create dynamic learning experiences. Among the numerous ITEST projects
engaged in this work are Girl Game Company, in which girls design and
program their own games, and Global Challenge, where teams of youth
learn about systems and scientific concepts through games and
simulations. This IdeaBrief draws on the ITEST LRC webcast on Using
Gaming & Computer Simulations for Youth Engagement & Learning, available
at http://admin.acrobat.com/_a34442951/p26048951/.
